White shark captured near the coast of Capelas, São Miguel island, in 1949.
It was a gift to the Carlos Machado Museum by the Armações Baleeiras de S. Miguel (Whalers of S. Miguel), so it could be prepared for exhibit. At that time, its capture was announced by the paper Correio dos Açores with the title "Capture of a monster".
The white shark can reach 7.5 meters in length and weigh up to 2.5 tons. Normally, it lives in the continental shelf zones, near the coast, where the water is not so deep, usually between 4 and 6 meters deep.

Foi oferecido ao Museu Carlos Machado pelas Armações Baleeiras de S. Miguel, a fim de ser preparado para fazer parte da exposição. Na época, a sua captura foi anunciada pelo jornal Correio dos Açores com o título “Pesca de um monstro”.
O tubarão-branco pode atingir 7,50 metros de comprimento e pesar até 2,5 toneladas. Normalmente, vive nas zonas de plataforma continental, perto da costa, onde a água é menos profunda, frequentemente entre os 4 m e os 6 m.
