VIRTUAL ARCHAEOLOGY with Jiří Unger
The Museu Carlos Machado invites you to another edition of #MUSEUTALKS, this time featuring Jiří Unger, a specialist in virtual archaeology.
This talk will explore how cutting-edge technologies are revolutionizing the study and presentation of the past. It will cover 3D digital documentation techniques such as Structure from Motion (SfM) and laser scanning, which enable the creation of precise digital replicas of artifacts, archaeological sites, and historical buildings.
Jiří Unger will also showcase the potential of 3D reconstruction modeling, helping us better understand ancient civilizations and making cultural heritage more accessible. The lecture will present immersive technologies such as Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and holographic systems, demonstrating how archaeology and technology come together to transform the way we interact with history.
About Jiří Unger
Jiří Unger is an archaeologist with a Ph.D. from the Czech Academy of Sciences. He specializes in virtual archaeology and the use of 3D digital methods in research and heritage dissemination. He currently works at the Regional Museum and Gallery in Jičín and the Institute of Archaeology of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague. He also has experience participating in international excavations, including in Afghanistan and Sudan.
