MuseuTalks: The Symbolism of the Romarias Quaresmais April 16 | 6:00 PM | Santa Bárbara Center the museum invites you to a special MuseuTalks dedicated to exploring the rich symbolism of the Romarias Quaresmais in the community of São Miguel. The talk will be presented by Luís H. Bettencourt Reis.
Deeply rooted in São Miguel’s culture, the Romarias Quaresmais are Lenten pilgrimages that reflect the islanders’ strong connection to their faith, the natural landscape, and communal values. More than a religious ritual, these pilgrimages are a living expression of intangible heritage.
Luís H. Bettencourt Reis has taken part in the Romarias Quaresmais since 2004 and has served as Irmão Mestre (Master Brother) of the Rancho de Romeiros de São José since 2011. He is the author of Por M.I.M. – The Book of Manuel Inácio de Melo That Remained Closed in a Shoebox for 60 Years, a remarkable collection documenting pilgrimages from the 1960s. Reis also contributes to the Cultural Team of the Romeiros de São Miguel Movement, serves on the Diocesan Acolyte Commission of the Diocese of Angra, the Parish Pastoral Council of São José, and the Diocesan Commission for Ecumenical Relations.
Don't miss this opportunity to hear from a dedicated voice of tradition and visit the accompanying exhibition, "Song of Color: Spirituality in Domingos Rebelo."
