Karlsruhe Concert Duo
Founded in 1999 by cellist Reinhard Armleder and pianist Dagmar Hartmann, the Karlsruhe Concert Duo has achieved remarkable success both in Germany and abroad. The ensemble has established itself on the international music scene, being awarded prizes in prestigious competitions in Italy and France.
Their repertoire focuses mainly on Classical-Romantic literature and 20th-century music. They have a particular interest in rediscovering lesser-known composers and works, while also dedicating themselves to contemporary music, frequently presenting world premieres.
Both artists studied at the Universities of Music in Karlsruhe, Trossingen and Berlin, furthering their education in masterclasses with renowned figures such as Lynn Harrell, Steven Isserlis, Janos Starker, Gaby Casadesus, Bruno Canino, Leonard Hokanson and the Beaux-Arts Trio.
As a duo, they won first prizes in several international competitions, including the Lorenzo Perosi Competition in Biella (1999), Moncalieri (1999), and Racconigi (2001). In France, they gained recognition by winning the Concours Pierre Lantier in Paris (2000) and the U.A.F.M. Competition in Chaville (2003). These achievements opened the doors to prestigious stages worldwide.
Today, their concert schedule includes regular tours across Europe, as well as in North, Central and South America, the Middle East, Asia and several Southern African countries. In recent years, they have performed in more than 90 countries, appearing at renowned festivals and concert series such as the Schubert Society in London, the Verbier Festival (Switzerland), the Bourglinster Castle Music Festival (Luxembourg), Art November Festival in Moscow, the Bach Festival in Kaliningrad, the Haifa Music Festivals (Israel), the Rovinj International Festival (Croatia), the Barenboim-Said Foundation in Ramallah (Palestine), the Friends of Jordan Festival (Amman), the Kharkiv International Festival (Ukraine), the Malta International Arts Festival, the Mozart Festival in Johannesburg (South Africa), the Brașov Festival (Romania), the Alem Saz International Festival in Astana (Kazakhstan), the concert series at the Ennejma Ezzahra Palace in Tunis (Tunisia), the Vendsyssel Festival (Denmark), the Brisbane Festival (Australia) and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (Scotland).
In 2025, the duo performed in South Africa, Eswatini and Zimbabwe, as well as in Malta, and will now appear for the first time in Serbia. Later this year, they will tour Colombia, Mexico, Slovakia and Mauritius. They have also recorded numerous productions for radio and television, as well as several CDs released by the Fiori Classics label.
Alongside their busy artistic careers, both musicians teach at the University of Music Karlsruhe and the Conservatory of the same city, and are regularly invited to give masterclasses in Switzerland, South Africa and Panama.
