Lower Choir, Palácio da Conceição
The round table “The Construction of Azorean Identity(ies): Historical Roots and Contemporary Perspectives” will take place on 18 April, at 5:30 pm, in the Lower Choir of Palácio da Conceição, as part of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Autonomy of the Azores and inaugurating the commemorations of the 600th anniversary of the Discovery of the Azores.
Interest in the question of Azorean identity constitutes a historical phenomenon situated mainly in the contemporary period. It results from a progressive awareness of the Azores’ distinct social, political and cultural condition within the national context, shaped through metacultural, literary, artistic and symbolic discourses, practices and representations.
The session proposes a moment of historical and anthropological reflection on the construction of Azorean identities, examining their historical foundations, their expressions, and their continuity in the present.
The session will feature Carlos Enes, Carlos Guilherme Riley, João Leal, Isabel Soares de Albergaria and Susana Serpa Silva, moderated by journalist Rui Pedro Paiva.
Admission is free, subject to venue capacity.
