The exhibition De Corpo Inteiro opens on 23 April, at 6:00 pm, at the Núcleo de Santo André of the Museu Carlos Machado, and will remain on view until 24 May 2026.
This project is part of the Educational Services for Ponta Delgada 2026, the Portuguese Capital of Culture (PDL26).
De Corpo Inteiro is a project that explores the dialogue between the language of dance — through bodily movement — and the visual arts, with drawing as a means of expression, aimed at audiences with physical limitations or intellectual disabilities.
The project proposes a set of activities designed to foster a greater awareness of the body and self-esteem, through plastic experimentation and the exploration of movement, gesture, line and mark. Under the guidance of artists Milagres Paz (dance), Sofia de Medeiros and Nina Medeiros (visual arts), seven creative sessions were planned over two months: three with the Associação de Cegos e Amblíopes dos Açores, three with the Associação Seara do Trigo, and one public session at the Museu Carlos Machado, where the project will also be shared with the wider community through an exhibition of the works produced and a video documentation.
As part of the exhibition, a structure will be built into which visitors are invited to enter and express themselves by drawing with their bodies across all surfaces.
Through an interdisciplinary approach, De Corpo Inteiro offers participants unique plastic and sensory experiences, grounded in the belief that we are all capable of using our bodies to create. Through choreographed sequences or improvised movements, marks can be made on vertical surfaces and on the floor, across different supports. The creative sessions are a space to explore not only techniques and materials, but also subjectivities and sensibilities — challenging the traditional perception of drawing as an artistic practice and affirming accessibility as a fundamental creative principle.
