The Line and Time: visual geographies of a city

Opening

7 May 6:00 pm

Santa Bárbara Center

The exhibition The Line and Time: visual geographies of a city opens on May 7 at 6:00 pm at the Santa Bárbara Centre of the Museu Carlos Machado, in Ponta Delgada.

Bringing together painting, photography, and sculpture, the exhibition invites visitors on a visual journey through the city. It presents Ponta Delgada as a place shaped by layers of history, memory, and ongoing change.

The exhibition is organized into three thematic sections, each reflecting a different part of the city, from former peripheral areas to the historic center, including the Banhos de Alcaçarias. Together, these sections create a narrative where past and present meet, revealing the city as something continuously evolving.

A highlight of the exhibition is The Emigrants by Domingos Rebelo, a work that reflects an essential aspect of Azorean identity while connecting to one of the city’s most well-known and transformed areas.

Rather than simply depicting Ponta Delgada, this exhibition invites visitors to experience and rediscover the city through a fresh perspective.
