The Museu Carlos Machado will host the next MuseuTalks session on 16 July at 6:00 p.m., featuring the documentary The Man of the South Wind. The event will take place at the Santo André Centre and is part of the Islands of Tomorrow programme, marking the opening of this initiative on Terceira Island.
Directed by Paulo Henrique Silva, the documentary follows Isamberto Silva, Fernando Pereira ("Pardal") and Ricardo Silveira, researchers who explore the natural landscapes of Madeira and the Azores in search of new discoveries. Through mountain trails, volcanic caves and little-known species, the film offers a compelling insight into the unique biodiversity of these Atlantic islands and the work of those dedicated to studying and preserving their natural heritage.
More than a documentary about nature, The Man of the South Wind is a tribute to naturalist researchers and to their invaluable contribution to scientific knowledge and the conservation of island ecosystems.
Following the screening, audiences are invited to join a discussion with director Paulo Henrique Silva, offering an opportunity to reflect on scientific exploration, the relationship between people and the natural environment, and the challenges of biodiversity conservation.
The screening has a running time of approximately 60 minutes. Admission is free, subject to venue capacity.
