On January 26, 2025, at 5:00 PM, the Sacred Art Center (Church of the Jesuit College) in Ponta Delgada the Museum will host the opening concert of the "Classics at the Museum" season. This is the first concert of the second season of the initiative promoted by Quadrivium – Artistic Association, in partnership with the Carlos Machado Museum.
Titled "In the Wind and in Time, Sound Architectures," the concert features three groups from Quadrivium: the Arquinteto, a wind quintet; the Azores Saxophone Quartet; and Atlantic Brass Five, a brass quintet.
The program includes works by composers such as Philip Glass, Gustav Holst, Michael Kamen, and Alexander Arutiunian. Highlights include the performance of Glass's Mishima by the Saxophone Quartet, and Holst's Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity by the Arquinteto, which also performs Euphoria by Antero Ávila. The Atlantic Brass Five will present Kamen's Quintet and two movements from Arutiunian's Armenian Scenes. The concept explores the interaction between music, space, and time, highlighting how sound integrates with the architecture of the venue.
Throughout the ten concerts scheduled for 2025, pianist Diana Botelho Vieira will perform Ravel in celebration of his 150th anniversary, accompanied by the Sinfonietta of Ponta Delgada. In another part of the season, Henrique Constância will debut as conductor of the Sinfonietta. The program will also feature the Trio Perpétuo, winners of the 2nd Prize at the 2022 Young Musicians competition in the Chamber Music category – advanced level.
The Classics at the Museum season is a production of Quadrivium – Artistic Association with the support of the Direção-Geral das Artes and Carlos Machado Museum.
