On March 30 at 5:00 PM, the Museu Carlos Machado presents another edition of Classics at the Museum, featuring a concert dedicated to Baroque music. The event will take place at the Sacred Art Center - Church of the Jesuit College, with a program focused on the works of Giuseppe Torelli and Georg Philipp Telemann.
Giuseppe Torelli (1658-1709) was a pioneer of the concerto grosso and the solo concerto, contributing to the recognition of the trumpet as a solo instrument. His Concerto in D Major for Trumpet, Strings, and Basso Continuo showcases the instrument's brilliance and grandeur, with technically demanding passages and dynamic dialogues between the soloist and the orchestra.
Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767), one of the most prolific composers of the Baroque era, also explored the trumpet’s sonority in works such as the Concerto for Trumpet, Strings, and Basso Continuo. His compositions blend the solemnity of the trumpet with fluid melodic lines, characteristic of the German Baroque style.
The concert will feature the String Ensemble, accompanying trumpeter Hugo Araújo, a native of Vila da Povoação. Also highlighted will be violinist Ana Oliveira. The musical direction will be led by conductor Amâncio Cabral, principal conductor of the Sinfonietta de Ponta Delgada.
A production by Quadrivium – Artistic Association, in collaboration with the Museu Carlos Machado, with the support of the Direção-Geral das Artes.
